Bob Bassett

Bob Bassett is dean of the Schoolof the Dodge College of Film and Media Arts at Chapman University, which offersundergraduate and graduate degrees, with programs in production, producing,screenwriting, film studies, production design, broadcast journalism, digitalarts, and public relations and advertising. He has providedleadership to create the film school, which now has more than 1,100 students,and convert the entire curriculum over to the use of digital technology.


He successfully led a $42-million dollar fund-raisingcampaign to build Marion Knott Studios, a 76,000-square-foot state-of-the-art studiocomplex, complete with sound stages and pre- and post-production facilities, thatopened in summer 2006. He receivedthe 2006 Artistic Visionary Award from Arts Orange County for lifetimeachievement in recognition of his leadership in developing Chapman’s filmschool and building Marion Knott Studios, a key community asset.


Dean Bassett has taught a wide range of production andfilm studies courses, including editing, cinematography, film aesthetics, andfilm genre studies. He is also an award-winning producer and director of educationalfilms and video projects for corporate and non-profit clients includingChildren’s Hospital of Orange County, the American Cancer Society, John WayneAirport, the University of California, Irvine, and Pomona College.


Dean Bassett has served as President and ConferenceVice-President of the University Film and Video Association (UFVA), the primarynational professional organization of film faculty, and led the delegation thatsaw Dodge College elected as one of 13 U.S. members of CILECT (CentreInternational de Liaison des Ecoles de Cinema et de Television), the premierinternational association of film schools. He is also a member of the International Council of FineArts Deans (ICFAD) and a trustee of the University Film and Video Foundation.
